Its all about the dogs

Just a few pics from this week. Kindle has grown almost as big as Beta now. They are good friends and love to play together. I know this is blurry but they just never stop moving! They sleep well though.Even Jackaroo has begun to grudgingly play with Kindle. He does not like sharing his sticks though. Jackaroo believes all sticks belong to him!
I'll leave you with this today. This is Beta's version of basketball and just more antics in the yard. Have a great day.

More Photos

We have a busy day planned so I thought I would leave you with a few pictures from last weekend that never got up here.
I bet you wondered why Tyler wasn't in the family swim photo. Well he says "Norwegian Buhunds do not swim, they nap!"

A lot!

For all of you who were wondering when I would let Jackaroo, the shark, loose with Kindle, well for a little over a week they have actually been playing together in small doses. He is doing great but she doesn't trust him completely yet. Smart girl.

I just love this face.

More swimming Cattle Dog style.Have a great day all.

Driven to drink? I think so.

A friend emailed this to me today.
I think it speaks for itself. :)

If you were around in 1919 (just before prohibition started) and came upon the following poster.........

I mean seriously, Would you quit drinking?

Kinda easy to see why prohibition didn't last. Wouldn't you say?

Giant Tortoise or what?

I came across this strange creature in the yard last weekend. I'm not sure but I think it may have escaped somehow from the Galapagos Islands. I think it's a giant tortoise. How exciting!
Beta and Jackaroo looked perplexed too. Oh wait! Its simply an old dog hinting she'd like to take a swim. What a ham!

Out with the old

Eleven years ago we built this kennel for our dogs.
Back then we only had Tasha and 2 old dogs who are now in doggie heaven. This was before we had maniacal cattle dogs who need to RUN! We since have fenced about an acre of our property and that helps the cattle kids to get more exercise. But we kept this old run as it was part of the total fencing. It unfortunately became a sort of outdoor junk room. But this year we realized it was really falling to wrack and ruin and had to be removed. So this last weekend we tackled it.

It started like this on Saturday.

We made good progress even though I deserted Scott to go take an agility lesson with baby Kindle.

We had to tear down the old fencing, install a gate and re-install the chain link in a new configuration.
It ended up like this.

With the exception of a bit of yard work left to do we were able to get it all done.
And the we even had time for a family swim before dark.

Wordless Wednesday?

I have never done wordless Wednesday before. Mostly because being wordless is nigh unto impossible for me.
So this is semi-wordless Wednesday.

Look how big my baby has gotten!

This was in early July.
This is last weekend.
They grow too fast!!

Weezee's Doggie Dispensary

Its been an interesting week. Between Wednesday and Thursday I have had all 5 dogs at the vet office. this is the scene I awoke to this morning. No mistake that I included the coffee pot.
Jackaroo is the only one who has not had to have a procedure or end up on antibiotics. I only had him tested for Lyme disease as he usually gets it once a summer and I have pulled boo coo ticks off him this year.
Blessedly he tested below treatment levels. Tasha was not so lucky and starts a round of antibiotics today. She already was treated back in March but her levels are still high. I hate those pesky little ticks. Can someone explain their usefulness on earth please. I mean do they serve any function other than being a royal pain in tush? Harrumph!

Kindle the baby has a lingering bladder infection, wrecking havoc with house training and yes folks round worms. Oh yuk! I have never had a puppy with worms before so this really grossed me out and of course led to worming all 5 dogs and we will do that again on 8/21.

Beta has a hot spot on her tail she will not leave alone and so had to have her little tail partly shaved and its slightly infected so she is on antibiotics. Her lovely little tail now looks like this:

And Beta looks like this:
She hates this collar even though I told her camo is all the rage right now. I have threatened her with a traditional Elizabethan collar because she got out of this one already. She is a notorious escape artist when it comes to this stuff. Twice a day she has to be cleaned and re-bandaged. Big fun, trust me.

Tyler had a cyst sort of thing that had to be removed. I was afraid it was a melanoma so I am really thanking God! it was nothing. He is fine now and does not need further treatment, well except for the worming. My vet who is wonderful by the way, is a little richer and we a little poorer and I feel like we are a doggie hospital. Its all been a little challenging but I know it could have been worse. I came home yesterday and finally applied for doggie health insurance. They will probably laugh at us.

OK, I'm going to have a cup of coffee. Have a great day all.

My new header

I've had a few comments about my new header. I thought I should give credit to the photographer. My friend Sheila vacations in Maine every summer and she captured this amazing lightening last summer at the beach. I just love the colors and the "fingers" of bolts.
So Sheila, thanks for sharing.

Sharp Shooters

Last week Scott and I took a pistol safety class. I wasn't sure how I would like it but the class was really interesting. I learned to load a revolver and semi-automatic, how to clean a hand gun and lots of safety stuff. It was very interesting and the guy teaching the class was entertaining. I was really pleased I scored a 94 on the written test. Scott got 100, show-off!

On Saturday we finished the class at the shooting range and that was really fun. We shot everything from an old style single action .22 revolver to a .45 semi-automatic. The instructor also had a 460 revolver, it was mammoth. I didn't shoot that, the percussion from everyone else shooting it was enough for me.
Here's a small sampling of the guns we used.

I got used to the recoil and the noise pretty quickly and concentrated on my aim. I did much better than I thought I would. I was sure I would never hit the target and truly my shooting was quite respectable. Not only did I hit the target but had my share of bulls eyes.
Here I am shooting a .38 double action revolver. I loved this gun, it was very accurate and with .357 cartridges packed quite a punch, er, boom!Scott's a really good shot but he has had guns for years and so has more experience than I. It was fun to go together and we met some really nice people.
So I'm hooked. I'm applying for a license. I really need to practice until I hit that bulls eye every time!
